Programme for the promotion of active, autonomous and healthy ageing

There have been significant advancements in approaches to dealing with ageing populations at national, European and international levels. However, there are still important needs and demands of elderly people that the Third Sector, together with other social agents, is striving to address. For this reason, Fundación Diagrama is developing the “Programme for the promotion of active, autonomous and healthy ageing: A comparative study of the actions of the Third Sector of Social Action in Spain and third countries,” financed by the Secretary of State for Social Rights. It will be in development from January to December 2023.

Objectives

The general goal of this programme is to broaden the knowledge base of the Third Sector of Social Action in Spain in the area of active, autonomous and heathy ageing.

Its specific goals are:

  1. To compare the action frameworks of social entities of the third sector in Spain and three third countries in the promotion of active, autonomous and healthy ageing.
  2. To understand the role and areas of action of social entities of the third sector in the promotion of active, autonomous and healthy ageing in Spain and third countries.
  3. To identify innovative management models in the promotion of active, autonomous and healthy ageing.
  4. To analyse the effect of globalisation and internationalisation on the work of social entities of the third sector for the promotion of active, autonomous and healthy ageing.
  5. To analyse the impact of a gender perspective on the promotion of active, autonomous and healthy ageing in third countries.

Beneficiaries

The principal beneficiaries of the programme are social entities of the third sector, as well as professionals and volunteers running services for elderly people in these entities. The elderly will be indirect beneficiaries of the programme.

Outcomes

The main outcome of the programme will be a report on the results of the study analysing in depth the management models and practices of three third countries (the United Kingdom, Norway and Switzerland) in terms of promoting active, autonomous and healthy ageing, in comparison with those in Spain.

The results will be disseminated via a training webinar aimed at professionals and volunteers working in social entities of the third sector, as well as via the audio-visual material created and shared on Fundación Diagrama’s website and social networks.
